“I have had the opportunity to work with Heidi Wills on progressive public policy issues over the last 25 years. I watched her coordinate salmon recovery efforts and work tirelessly to pass the first Sound Transit package when I was on the King County Council and she was a staffer to Democrats Ron Sims and Cynthia Sullivan. As Mayor, when Heidi was on the Seattle City Council, I could count on her to bring a common-sense approach to problem solving. She is a collaborative and effective leader.
Heidi and I share a passion for climate protection. She was the City Council’s lead on tackling climate disruption. The need for that passion has become even more urgent in the subsequent 16 years. She led on renewable energy, weatherizing homes, green building, expanding rate assistance to low-income rate payers, and in updating our commercial energy code to be among the strongest in the country.
As mayor, I championed a “back to basics” approach to government. Heidi made the core functions of local government including public safety and transportation her priority as well.
Even more relevant is what she’s done since. Heidi is a working mom and small business owner. She was an Executive Director for a non-profit in South Seattle serving thousands of youth from diverse backgrounds. We need her skillful leadership, life experience and steady hand to work with City leaders and regional partners to tackle big challenges facing our City.
Please join me in supporting Heidi Wills for Seattle City Council when you mail your ballot for the November 5th election.”
